Adekunle Gold has made history as the first musician to completely sell out the newly refurbished National Theatre in Lagos.
The singer behind the hit song Orente achieved the feat on December 26, filling all 3,560 seats at the venue, which has been renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.
On Thursday, Adekunle Gold was awarded two commemorative plaques — one acknowledging the management and record label behind the concert, and another celebrating him as the first artiste to headline and sell out the iconic venue.
“Sometin different management, events and record label. Record label for Adekunle Gold sold out national Theatre event in Lagos, Nigeria,” the plaque for the record label reads.
The show featured a unique fusion of classical arrangements and Afrobeats, with Adekunle performing alongside a full orchestra, delivering an unforgettable musical experience for fans.
The concert, which had a black tie dress code, had quite a few surprises.
One of them was Olamide taking the stage to introduce Adekunle, describing him as a “refined and sophisticated” Afrobeats artiste.
“Ladiesneh and gentlemenSneh, I’m your host for todaySneh. They call me Baddosneh. I’m here to introduce one of the tiniest, most refined and sophisticated Afrobeats artists, known for his elegant style and impeccable finesse — a true embodiment of grandeur and top-tier artistry,” he had said.
“Please join me in welcoming the big fish, AG Baby, Adekunle Gold, also known as Mr Kosoko. Sit back, relax and enjoy good music.”
The concert was also graced by music legends Adewale Ayuba and Yinka Ayefele.
