Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon discusses his experiences with fame as well as the complexities of his marriage.
Deyemi During a recent episode of Teju Babyface’s Deep Dive podcast, the comic disclosed that his wife has a distinct approach to handling flirtatious female followers.
In a lighthearted tone, he called her “a look away person,” adding that his wife has never asked him about instances in which fans have attempted to kiss him.
He claims that she has purposefully stayed away from him on social media for years in order to keep a distance from the visible facets of his life.
The actor acknowledged that being in the spotlight was never his goal. For him, fame is still a mystery.
Deyemi Okanlawon added that he might never have left the corporate sector if new circumstances had arisen.
To quote him:
“If look away was a person, that is my baby girl [my wife]. I remember one time I went out with friends and some lady tried to kiss me. Not once has my wife ever questioned me about female fans flirting with me.
“My wife has not been following me on social media for years. She has never followed me on social media.”
He said he never wanted to be an actor, stressing that he struggles to handle fame.
“I don’t understand fame. I have never dreamt of being an actor. If certain things had happened the way I wanted it to happen, I would never have left the cooperate world”
“In 2019, I quit acting. Fame is nothing, impact is everything.”
