Wizkid, popularly known as Ayodeji Balogun from Nigeria, is the first artiste to win the American Music Awards’ Favourite Afrobeats Artiste category.
On Sunday, the Microsoft Theater in California hosted the 50th iteration of the occasion.
The Favorite Afrobeats Artiste category was included to the awards ceremony for the first time.
To finally win the award, Wizkid competed against other Nigerian artists like as Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy DML, and Tems.
He also took up the prize for Favorite R&B Song at the event for his collaboration on Essence with Tems.
Two years after Essence’s release as the eleventh single of Wizkid’s fourth studio album, Made in Lagos, in October 2020, it is still winning awards.
Tailor Swift, an American singer, was the night’s top winner, taking home six trophies in all, including 2022 Artiste of the Year. She now has 40 victories overall, increasing her record as the most-awarded artist in AMA history.
