2027: ADC speaks on merging with other political parties

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has ruled out merging with any political party ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring instead that political actors interested in its platform are welcome to join.

Speaking in Ilorin during a gathering with party leaders and members to celebrate the recently concluded Eid al-Adha festivities, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC remains open to new entrants but will not seek alliances that compromise its identity.

“ADC will not join any political party, but interested parties are free to join us, our doors are open,” he said.

Abdullahi urged Nigerians to support the opposition party, arguing that the country needs a new direction away from the ruling APC-led administration.

According to him, the current government has subjected citizens to severe hardship and should be voted out in the next general election.

He expressed concern over the worsening security situation across the country, noting that many Nigerians no longer feel safe.

“It is disheartening that we are experiencing a high rate of insecurity in the country as we cannot live peacefully again,” he said.

He added that, “the reported cases of kidnapping have taken a serious toll on various states of the country, and this has brought a lot of serious concern to the populace.”

The ADC spokesman also lamented rising poverty, economic difficulties and what he described as poor governance under the APC, insisting that his party offers the best alternative for national recovery.

Calling on party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation, Abdullahi said their efforts would be crucial in delivering electoral success for the ADC in 2027 and bringing meaningful political change.

He disclosed that all party candidates are expected to align with and implement the ADC’s manifesto, stressing that this commitment would help ensure effective leadership if elected into office.

Abdullahi further assured members that the party leadership would actively support candidates during campaigns and help them reach voters across various constituencies.

Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, he said the ADC is positioned to take power both in Kwara State and at the national level in 2027.

“We have qualified and experienced candidates. We don’t have candidates who have been to EFCC before,” he said.

He, however, stressed that electoral victory would require broad public participation, noting that meaningful political change cannot be achieved without the active support of Nigerians.
