The wife of legendary Nigerian singer 2Baba, Natasha Osawaru, has emerged as the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, was appointed to the position during Monday’s plenary following a reshuffling of the Assembly’s principal leadership.

The development came after Blessing Agbebaku resigned as Speaker amid reported moves by lawmakers to impeach him. He was subsequently succeeded by Yekini Idiaye, representing Akoko-Edo Constituency II.

Reacting to her new position in a statement posted on Facebook, Osawaru described the role as more than a title, saying it represents a “trust.”

“In a landmark development during Monday morning’s plenary, the Edo State House of Assembly announced a comprehensive reshuffle of its principal leadership, officially naming the distinguished representative of Egor Constituency, Hon. Natasha Osawaru, as the new Minority Leader of the House,” the statement reads.

“Hon. Osawaru’s elevation under the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reflects not only her formidable standing within the legislative chamber, but also the deep confidence reposed in her by colleagues and constituents alike.

“Having previously served with distinction as the Deputy Majority Leader, she has consistently proven that effective leadership transcends partisan divides.”

She also added that her commitment remains to the people of Egor.

“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” she said.

“Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise.

“As Minority Leader, my commitment to the development of Edo State, the progress of our great party, the NDC, and the prosperity of the good people of Egor remains absolute.”
