The governor of Rivers State, has lauded Nyesom Wike, Siminalayi Fubara, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for initiating the 50-kilometre dual carriage Port Harcourt ring road project.

Fubara made the remarks on Tuesday while inspecting the project in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

He described Wike, a former Rivers governor, as a leader with a “very big ambition” for conceiving the massive road infrastructure.

According to Fubara, Wike is confident that the people of Rivers State will appreciate the present administration if the project is delivered within record time.

The governor explained that the ring road was originally designed for completion within 36 months but revealed that it is now expected to be delivered by October this year.

“For me, this project is very important considering the person who conceived it, my Oga, the honourable minister,” Fubara said.

“He had a very big ambition and believed that if this project is delivered on record time, Rivers people will be happy with me.

“Notwithstanding whatever is happening, it is my wish and responsibility to see that this vision is fulfilled. This explains the importance we attach to the project as a government and as a people.

“From what is visible to everyone, a lot has been achieved. From our discussions, the contractors have assured us that the project will be delivered by October.”

The project, which was inaugurated in July 2023, covers 50.15 kilometres and features five flyovers as well as a river-crossing bridge. It is designed to link more than six local government areas in the state.

Fubara’s praise of Wike comes barely a day after both leaders met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja to address their political differences.

Reports following the meeting indicate that Fubara is expected to forward the list of his cabinet nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and approval.
