Supporters of Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, ex-governor of Kano, are preparing to hold a unity summit in Abuja.

The event, themed “One Voice, One Vision: In Unity We Win”, is scheduled to take place today.

A flyer shared on X by the OK Movement shows that eight speakers will address the gathering, including Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP); Aisha Yesufu, activist; and Isaac Fayose, brother of a former Ekiti governor. Others expected to speak include Moses Paul, a former African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate, and Adebayo Adefolaseye, the movement’s south-west coordinator.

As of the time of filing this report, about 428 Nigerians had registered to attend the summit.

The development comes amid rising speculation that Obi and Kwankwaso may leave the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Habibu Mohammed, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya movement, said the two politicians are expected to conclude the move next week following a unanimous decision by stakeholders.

He added that talks with the NDC are “about 90 percent” complete, with only minor issues left unresolved, suggesting the move could happen as early as Monday or Tuesday.

“I believe him, Peter Obi, and some others will be joining the NDC,” Mohammed said.

The lingering leadership crisis within the ADC is believed to be a major reason behind the possible defection. Recently, the supreme court nullified the status quo ante bellum order in the dispute and returned the matter to the federal high court, effectively reopening the leadership contest.

In April, supporters of Obi and Kwankwaso launched the OK Movement to mobilise support for a potential joint ticket ahead of upcoming elections.
