Two people have been confirmed dead following a rainstorm that struck Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as 50-year-old Aisha Sagir and her four-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, both residents of Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village, Kirfi.
Their deaths were confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil Habib.
According to the statement, preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. when heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds hit the community, leading to loss of lives and the destruction of several houses, livestock, and property worth millions of naira.
Police operatives attached to the Kirfi Division reportedly visited the scene to assess the extent of damage and to restore order in the affected area.
The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Kirfi Local Government Area.
He assured residents that the command, in collaboration with relevant agencies, remains committed to supporting disaster response efforts and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the state.
The police commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant during the rainy season and to promptly report emergencies to security agencies for quick intervention.
