Respected Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi dies at 98

A highly respected Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, has died at 98.

He passed away early Thursday at the teaching hospital of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi.

A family member, Malam Ahmed Mohammed, confirmed the passing that same day in Bauchi.

According to him, the esteemed cleric had received visitors on Wednesday night before being taken to the hospital, where he later died.

He also stated that the burial prayer is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 28, in Bauchi, following Islamic traditions.

Usman-Bauchi, who held the national honor OFR, was widely regarded as one of the country’s leading Islamic figures, known for his deep scholarship, spiritual leadership, and lifelong dedication to spreading Islamic teachings.

Born in 1927 in Gombe, he spent his life promoting Islamic learning, peaceful coexistence, and unity across the nation.

He also served as the head of the Tijjaniya order in Nigeria, a prominent Sufi movement.

His guidance, centered on ethical conduct, patience, and commitment to Islamic values, earned him a large following and widespread admiration at home and abroad.

Throughout his life, Usman-Bauchi contributed significantly to community development, nurtured upcoming scholars, and enhanced religious understanding.
