The Zamfara State Police Command has recorded major security gains after killing two suspected bandits during a gun battle in Bungudu Local Government Area and recovering an improvised explosive device in a separate operation.
Police spokesperson, DSP Yazoo Abubakar, said the armed men launched an attack on Rugar Buda Village through the Nahuce District in the early hours of Tuesday.
“On 26th May, 2026, at about 0030hrs, a group of armed hoodlums invaded the Funture area of Rugar Buda Village via Nahuce District in Bungudu Emirate, shooting sporadically in an attempt to cause panic among residents”.
Following the attack, security operatives moved to the area and confronted the assailants.
“Upon receipt of the report, Police operatives and other security personnel stationed in Nahuce swiftly mobilised and responded to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel”.
The police said two of the suspects were killed in the exchange, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds. A vigilante member, Kabiru Auwal, was injured during the operation.
“Regrettably, a vigilante member identified as Kabiru Auwal, male, 35 years old, of Gwargwabe area, sustained a gunshot injury on his left hand, resulting in a fracture”.
The injured volunteer is receiving treatment, while security patrols have been strengthened in the area.
In another development, officers of the Violent Crime Response Unit and the EOD-CBRN Team uncovered a pressure-plate IED along the Bilbis–Kuncin Kalgo route during a sweep operation.
“The explosive device was suspected to have been planted by terrorists operating within the area with the intention of targeting security personnel and innocent civilians”.
The device was safely removed and destroyed without casualties.
“The EOD-CBRN experts successfully evacuated and neutralised the planted IED without any casualties. Components of the explosive device were safely demolished in accordance with standard safety procedures to prevent accidental detonation, while the affected area was rendered safe for public movement”.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, praised the operatives for their efforts and urged residents to continue providing useful information to aid the fight against crime.
