What Akeredolu, Na’Abba’s death showed us — Peter Obi

The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate during the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has said the demise of two prominent Nigerians on Wednesday underscores the significance for political officeholders and others in public service to stay dedicated to positive actions.

Akeredolu, aged 67, passed away on Wednesday.

According to reports, the demise of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, who was born on September 27, 1958. The 8th Speaker of the House of Representatives breathed his last in Abuja on Wednesday morning. Family sources revealed that Na’Abba had been grappling with a prolonged illness before his demise.

In response to their deaths, Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, shared reflections on the transient nature of life in a series of posts on his X account.

He mentioned that he had the privilege of being in proximity to Akeredolu when the latter was the President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Akeredolu had invited him to speak at an NBA event, leading to a lasting connection where they consistently engaged in discussions about various issues concerning Nigeria.

Furthermore, he noted that during Na’Abba’s tenure as Speaker, they had multiple encounters, and their discussions consistently revolved around the challenges facing Nigeria.

“For Akerodolu, may God Almighty who called him home grant him eternal rest in His kingdom, and grant his immediate family and the good people of Ondo State, the fortitude to bear his loss.

“For Ghali Na’Abba, may God Almighty forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest and grant his family and the good people of Kano State, the fortitude to bear his loss.

“Their deaths show us, who are still serving, the nothingness of life and why we should remain firm in good works. May God grant all of us, who mourn them, and the entire nation, the fortitude to bear their losses,” Obi said.
