Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, announced the signing of Germany midfielder Pascal Gross from Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion on a two-year deal.
German media reported that Dortmund paid a fee of up to 10 million euros ($11 million), including bonuses, to sign the 33-year-old.
Gross, known for his creativity and goal-scoring ability, joins the Champions League finalists after spending seven years with Brighton, where he arrived from German side FC Ingolstadt in 2017. A lifelong Dortmund fan, Gross expressed his excitement to play alongside his new teammates.
Dortmund director Lars Ricken described Gross as a “top performer” who would bring “solidity and flexibility” to the team.
During his 228 Premier League appearances, Gross scored 30 goals and provided 45 assists, playing a crucial role in helping Brighton qualify for European competition for the first time in their 122-year history after finishing sixth in the 2022-23 season.
Gross was named Brighton’s Player of the Season twice: in his first season (2017-18) and in his final campaign (2022-23).
The midfielder received his first Germany call-up at the age of 32 and was part of manager Julian Nagelsmann’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024. He has earned eight caps and scored one goal at the international level.
Dortmund signed Gross following a disappointing domestic season in 2023-24. Despite reaching the Champions League final, where they lost to Real Madrid at Wembley, Dortmund finished fifth in the league and were eliminated in the last 16 of the German Cup.
This summer, Dortmund has already signed striker Serhou Guirassy and defender Waldemar Anton, both from last season’s surprise Bundesliga runners-up Stuttgart.
