Irish teenager Melia in ‘record’ transfer to Tottenham
Teenage sensation Mason Melia has agreed to join Tottenham Hotspur, with St Patrick’s Athletic confirming the transfer as a “record fee for a League of Ireland player.”
The 17-year-old, who made his senior debut in May 2023 and became the youngest scorer in league history at just 15, will move to the Premier League club in January 2026.
The deal, reportedly worth an initial £1.6 million, includes a five-year contract.
Hailing from County Wicklow, Melia has already made 54 appearances for St Patrick’s Athletic, netting 10 goals. He received his first call-up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad in October 2024.
In 2023, Melia made history as the youngest player to feature in an FAI Cup final, helping St Pat’s secure a victory over Bohemians to claim the trophy.
St Pat’s manager, Stephen Kenny, lauded Melia’s exceptional talent as a goalscorer, expressing confidence in the striker’s potential for a successful international career.
“Mason is a terrific talent with an exceptional attitude and a real appetite for hard work,” Kenny told the club’s website.
“He has had a dramatic impact for one so young, his performances in our Conference League games playing as a central striker against high calibre opposition were of real quality.
“Mason has repeated those performances at international level for Ireland and has a bright future ahead for his country.”
