Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly leading the pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, whose exceptional form has captured the attention of top European clubs.
The Swedish forward has netted nine goals in his last three appearances, amassing 23 goals in 17 games across all competitions this season.
According to The Daily Star, United and Chelsea are seen as frontrunners in the chase, while The Telegraph reports that his transfer fee could be as low as £63 million next summer, despite a higher release clause.
CaughtOffside adds that Sporting may be open to negotiating a discounted fee, making the 26-year-old an appealing option.
A move to the Premier League would allow Gyokeres to compete at a higher level, with added intrigue if Manchester United hires Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, reuniting the forward with a coach who knows his style well. However, United’s recent mixed record with big-name signings—like Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho—might be a consideration.
Chelsea, similarly eager for a reliable striker, could provide a strong alternative, though the club’s managerial changes and high player turnover might pose a challenge for the Swedish star.
“These don’t seem like ideal environments for Gyokeres, so he might do well to wait and see what other opportunities come along, as he surely won’t be short of suitors from elsewhere,” the report added.
The report also noted that a potential price drop could ignite a bidding war, giving Gyokeres the opportunity to carefully weigh his next move, whether in the Premier League or elsewhere.
