Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has won the prestigious Serie A Player of the Year award at the Oscar del Calcio AIC ceremony.

The 24-year-old secured the title of the top player following an outstanding year with Napoli in the premier league, guiding his team to their first championship in 33 years.

Additionally, the Nigerian forward made history as the inaugural African player to claim the Golden Boot in the Italian league.

“Victor Osimhen is the 2022/23 Footballer of the Year,” stated the organisers of the award on their social media handles.

Accompanied by his partner Stefanie Kim Ladewig, the prolific goal-scorer attended the event to accept the award recognizing his achievements with Napoli.

Osimhen’s exceptional performance also earned him a spot in the Serie A Team of the Year, according to reports from Soccernet Nigeria.

In the previous season, the standout player for the Super Eagles netted 31 goals in 39 matches, playing a pivotal role in Napoli’s journey to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Osimhen’s impressive performance earned him a place in the top 10 contenders for the 2023 Ballon d’Or, ultimately claimed by Argentina legend Lionel Messi.

Despite facing challenges with injuries in the current season, the Nigerian international is still considered the frontrunner for the 2023 African Player of the Year award.
