The Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has called for a stronger connection between traditional medicine and modern healthcare systems in Nigeria, saying it could improve healthcare delivery and help preserve indigenous medical knowledge.

He made this statement while hosting members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Oyo State branch, at the Olubadan Palace. According to him, traditional medicine remains widely useful because it is both accessible and affordable for many people.

He said, “I believe in the efficacy of traditional medicine, its accessibility and affordability. So, let me use this period to advocate for the integration of traditional medicine with modern medicine for the enhancement of virile healthcare delivery before the exit of the traditional medical practitioners,” the monarch said.

During the visit, the PSN chairman in Oyo State, Segun Ajanaku, congratulated the monarch on his throne and commended his achievements so far. He also announced the completion of a pharmacists’ multi-storey building in Ibadan, describing it as the first of its kind in Nigeria, and invited the Olubadan to its inauguration on May 21, 2026.

The association further requested permission to hold its annual medical outreach at the palace on September 25, 2026. The event was attended by several traditional rulers and dignitaries.
