The Imo State Government has closed a hotel and a private mortuary in the Umuhu community of Ngor-Okpala following the uncovering of “decomposed and mutilated corpses” found in highly unsanitary conditions, prompting concerns about “illegal organ-harvesting activities.”

The incident was revealed on Sunday in a statement issued by Henry Okoye, the state police spokesperson.

According to Okoye, the enforcement action formed part of an ongoing operation targeting kidnapping and violent crimes along the Owerri–Aba Expressway. The operation was led by Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma in collaboration with other security stakeholders.

He explained that the raid stemmed from credible intelligence linking the locations to a wanted suspect, “Stanley Morocco Oparaugo,” who is still on the run.

Okoye noted that officers carried out inspections at both the hotel and the private mortuary owned by the suspect, which were allegedly being used by kidnappers and other violent criminals.

The statement further revealed that “at the mortuary, decomposed and mutilated corpses were discovered in unhygienic conditions, raising suspicions of illegal organ-harvesting activities.”

Following this alarming discovery, the state government ordered the immediate sealing of both facilities. A search of the suspect’s home also led to the recovery of important exhibits.

Okoye added that the Commissioner of Police has assured residents that everyone connected to the crime will be identified and prosecuted.

He reiterated that “Stanley Morocco Oparaugo has been declared WANTED. Anyone with useful information should contact the nearest police station,” adding that “maximum security has been deployed along the Owerri–Aba Expressway.”
