Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo, was on Thursday laid to rest in his hometown of Aziukwubwo Ujori village, Arochukwu, Abia state.

The 40-year-old actor died on May 11 after a prolonged battle with stage 4 kidney cancer.

Days after his passing, the family announced burial arrangements beginning with a service of songs held on June 10 at The Monarch Event Center in Lekki, Lagos.

The event was attended by colleagues, friends, and dignitaries, all dressed in white in honour of the late actor.

On Wednesday, Ekubo’s remains arrived at his family compound in Abia in a convoy of vehicles. Family and friends gathered for a wake, where they shared memories and reflections on their relationship with the actor.

In keeping with tradition, younger family members escorted his remains into the compound while carrying his portrait.

The final funeral rites took place on Thursday, with colleagues, friends, and family members paying their last respects.

Prominent figures at the funeral included fellow actors Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Ik Ogbonna, Bimbo Ademoye, Deyemi Okanlawon, Omoni Oboli, and Ayo Makun.

Also present were Caleb Ajagba, chief of staff to the Abia state governor; businessman Obi Cubana; and Matthew Ekwuribe, commissioner for art, culture, and creative economy for Abia.

In an Instagram video, Oboli confirmed that Ekubo had been laid to rest. She also announced that proceeds from her upcoming film ‘The First Lady’ which will be released on her YouTube channel, would be donated to Ekubo’s family.

“We’ve laid our bestie Alex to rest to the glory of God. Thank you Jesus!” she wrote.

“In his memory and to honor his legacy, I am releasing our movie THE FIRST LADY on Omoni Oboli Tv on YouTube by 5pm. The proceeds will go to the family so please help us share widely.

“Love vou all so much besties. Alexx Ekubo! You came, You saw! You conquered! You are forever in our hearts bestie. Love you forever.”
