The mother of Afrobeats singer Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has taken to the streets of Lagos to promote her daughter’s upcoming album, “Starr Girl”, ahead of its release on Friday.
Nene Aderibigbe, who is popularly known as Genzmummy on Instagram, shared a video featuring herself, Ayra Starr’s sister and other women campaigning for the singer’s new project.
The video was accompanied by the caption: “We declare starrgirl album to God in the name of the father and the son and of the holy ghost”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the women wore coordinated black outfits with purple headgear as they moved around Lagos carrying placards advertising “Starr Girl”.
Some of the placards displayed messages such as “Stargirl album out on the 14th of August” as part of the street campaign ahead of the album’s launch.
The unusual promotional effort comes as Ayra Starr prepares to release “Starr Girl”, which will become her third studio album following “19 & Dangerous” and “The Year I Turned 21”.
Born in Cotonou, Benin Republic, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Ayra Starr gained prominence after joining Mavin Records and releasing her self-titled debut EP in 2021.
She went on to release “19 & Dangerous” in 2021, before dropping “The Year I Turned 21” in May 2024.
Her 2022 hit single “Rush” earned her a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards.
Ayra Starr had previously announced that “Starr Girl” would arrive on August 14, making it her latest full-length studio project.
